This tile is amazing. The weather hasn't helped, but the tile is amazing. To recap Thursday and Friday - they finished laying the tile on Thursday and grouted on Friday. Because it was cold and wet both days, drying took longer than we had hoped. I had taken Friday afternoon off to start cleaning and painting, but since the grout was still drying, we hung out with Grand and Pap, and I got a sneak preview of what is to come in Downton Abbey this season. (My Pop gave my Mom Season 4 on DVD for Christmas, it was released on the 28th and she got it Friday. Jealous, I am. Copy I will have.)
In the meantime, it became clear that because of the leveling of the floor, the transitions from the hallway to the bedrooms isn't level. So lots of options (all bad) were half-heartedly offered by the tile folks and I might have, for the first time in this project, lost my cool. I might have cried in a store. I might have really been upset. However, after some time with my mom (see above), and a big hug and a reminder that life isn't perfect, I started to calm down. Then we got home and I started to paint closets and clean...and I felt better. Maybe it was time and patience, or maybe it was the paint fumes, but I went to bed Friday night feeling much better.
So, we'll get the transitions figured out on Monday. The rest of the tile is AMAZING, and way more amazing than we thought it would be.
So...bonus projects. Yeah.
Turns out, all of the baseboards have been taken up and we now have to put back down. Fortunately, the tile guys bundled the baseboards up and labeled them so it won't be quite the huge puzzle it could have been. But, still, we weren't counting on getting to clean and polish all the baseboards in the house. Ah well, they look nice.
Second bonus project - closets. Turns out, we had to empty the pantry, coat closet, linen closet, and entertaining closet (it would be a Butler's Pantry except it is in the wrong part of the house). And once we got them emptied, we realized how in need of a fresh coat of paint they are. So, we're now painting closets. Yay. (Truly, I am glad that we decided to go ahead and do this but I really wasn't counting on it!)
So, next up, cleaning and painting. The walls will be "Emerald Vapor" by Ben Moore. Gorgeous, light bluey green color and I can't wait to see it!!!
