So, right at 5 gallons later, I am pretty much done with paint - except for this one really high spot way up on the new drywall. Even with our 12 foot ladder, I couldn't quite reach it - and by the time I got to this corner, I'd been painting for about 7 straight hours (lunch break, of course) and I wasn't willing to try any acrobatics to get this last bit painted. And we figure we'll have touch-up over the next days/weeks, so we'll get to it eventually. We may need to find someone with a really tall extension ladder (who is local) but we'll get it there.
Here's pictures of painted walls...almost as exciting as watching paint dry. (And on that topic, I have to say there is something terribly satisfying about painting. It is a very organized process. Prep. Cut in. Roll. Repeat. Clean up. You always know exactly how far you've come and how much is left. Quite satisfying, that. Somewhat mindless, but very, very rewarding.) I wish the pictures did the color credit - but imagine the clearest, lightest color of sea glass you've ever seen. Or maybe what the color of the ocean is someplace like Fiji.
The one crummy corner I can't reach. Argh.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the Super Toilet Bowl project turned into a two day project since we discovered it was leaking on Monday morning. So, figure a toilet that is somewhere around 30 years old getting moved and re-placed - yeah, it's gonna have some problems. So while I painted and listened to cable radio (weird that you can get music channels on your TV that are not MTV [which doesn't actually play music any more, I don't think]), the Mister replaced all sorts of valves and hoses and whatever on the potty. Left it over night and *shazam!*, it is not leaking any more. Yay, and thank God for small favors.
That was Monday in a nutshell. It seemed way more complicated at the time but now it all seems so simple. Heh.
Tuesday morning, our new fridge got delivered and installed and it is gorgeous and cabinet depth and gorgeous (I already said that). We haven't moved into it yet because we were busy replacing the baseboards on Tuesday night, but it is there and chillin' and making ice. And!!! - something I have awakened several times in the middle of the night worried about - appliances. Between my cheap-o ways, the world wide interwebs, and Consumer Reports, my appliances are all different manufacturers. KitchenAid, JennAir, GE, Maytag...how are they all gonna look in the same space? AMAZING is the answer. With the fridge here and running, I actually took the time to look at the handles on things - and it turns out that despite different manufacturers (or at least different brands) the handles are EXACTLY the same on the fridge, dishwasher and oven. Who knew? (My Kitchen Angel, that's who!)
Pics of the fridge and baseboards:
Internal, filtered water dispenser. Hopefully this will wean us from bottled water once and for all!!!
Baseboards -
Once again, Doozy makes a cameo appearance...
And one more thing - back to the tile transitions between the hall and the bedrooms...turns out that they make bull nose tile in the same color as the rest of the floor, so that's been ordered and will be installed and that will be the end of that teeny weeny little crisis.
Onward through the fog...or dust, as it were...
